Wondering how to say Peqkya? Well, here’s a short pronunciation guide for some of the tongue-twister names of characters, peoples and places in my epic fantasy novel Melokai, book one of In the Heart of the Mountains trilogy. First off, places and peoples:
Peqkya – “peck-key-ah” Xayy – “zay”, sounds like day Riaow – “ree-ow”, sounds like meow Meliok – “mel-lee-ock” Zyr Peq – “zeer”, sounds like ear, “peck” Inaly Lake – “in-arl-lee” Zwullfr – “zur-wool-fur” Wulhor-Aaen – “wool-her” “a-in” Aaowl Peak – “a-owl” Wul-Onr valley – “wool-on-er" Trequ valley and Trequ river – “treck-ooh” (as in the French ‘ooh la la’) Parchad – “par-chad” Urakbai – “ur-rack-bye” Jhabia Ridge – “hhhab-bee-ah” Wakrime – “wock-reem” Qacirr – “ka-seer” Eqmadeh – “eck-ma-da” Fertilian – “fur-till-e-an” Lian – “lee-an” Qaziik – “ka-zeek” Secondly, characters: Melokai Ramya – “mel-o-kye”, kye sounds like bye, “ram-mee-ah” Sybilya – “sib-bill-lee-ah” Gosya – “go-she-ah” Violya – “vee-o-lee-ah” Omya – “om-yah” Jozya – “joz-zee-ah” Irrya – “ear-ree-ah” Naomya – “neigh-o-mee-ah” Sianya – “ssh-arn-e-ah” Mastiq – “mass-teak” Ammad – “amm-ad” Jakira – “jack-ear-ah” Ganni Deraasi – “duh-rarr-zee” Zeead Medra – “zee-ad” Whaled – “wall-lid” Ruler Wahakbi – “wah-hack-bee” Gwrlain – “guh-were-lain” Oghril – “ogg-rill” Moqtoa – “mock-toe-ah” Utuli – “u-tul-lee” Brinjinqa – “brin-jinck-ah” I think that’s all the tricky ones, but let me know in the comments if there are any other words in Melokai you’d not sure how to pronounce and I’ll be sure to let you know!
